RI Foreign Language Assoc. Student of the Year

Due:  December 15 to School Counselors' Offices (hardcopy or email)

*All applications will be reviewed and only one per school will be forwarded to the state level.  

Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant’s world languages teacher must be a current member of RIFLA. 
  • The applicant must be a high school senior who is currently enrolled in the third year level or higher in his or her chosen language. Exceptions may be made in unusual circumstances. 
  • The applicant must have a 3.25 overall GPA or higher as noted on the transcript

Application Procedures

  • The applicant must submit the following:
  • the completed application form located on the following page 
  • ·one official transcript of grades 
  • two brief letters of recommendation, one from the applicant’s current world languages teacher and one from another teacher or affiliated community member 
  • a personal statement

Selection of Award Recipient

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance and interest in world language study as evidenced by their transcript, letters of recommendation, and their personal statement. A personal interview may be required of finalists. Winner will be notified in January.

WTS Transportation YOU Scholarship

The minimum criteria for selection are as follows:

  • Open to high school senior girls
    GPA of 3.0 or higher
  •  Currently enrolled in a high school studying math, science, and technology
  •  Considering a career in a transportation-related field

The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific goals, academic record and interest in transportation.

The Rhode Chapter is offering a high school scholarship in the amount of $500. The recipient’s application is then forwarded to the WTS Foundation to be considered for the WTS Transportation YOU High School Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

The Profile in Courage Essay Contest deadline is January 15, 2021.  The contest is open to high school students in grades nine through twelve.

US JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship

Each year (April) $1,000 grants will be awarded to graduating high school 
seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senate Foundation. The monies must be usedfor educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of their choice.

Army ROTC Scholarship Information

DUE:  March 4, 2021


Army ROTC provides full tuition and fees (or $10K for room and board) scholarships to over 2000 high school students each year. They intend to continue to sustain that same level of commitment into 2021. In addition to the tuition and fees, the scholarship pays $1200 annually for books and a stipend of $420 per months (for up to 10 months a year.)

They have provided links to several resources that you can use for assistance. One is the Army ROTC overview. It explains, in general terms, the basic eligibility and benefits for the program. The other is a resource to assist the students in preparing for the ACT/SAT as they wait for the tests to be conducted. These tools provide a great way for students to use their spare time to improve test scores. All are easily downloaded by clicking the links below.

RISLA Knowledge for College Scholarship

General Information:

  • RI resident, high school seniors can enter just by answering 3 multiple choice financial literacy questions once per month 
  • 3 winners of $2,000 each will be randomly selected on the first day of the following month starting Oct 1st through May 1st
  • Note: Students can win only once per academic year, therefore the student winners chosen in September have no need to re-enter for the remainder of monthly drawings through May 2021.
  • Students who enter all 8 months consecutively during September through April but did not win are qualified for the bonus drawing also held in May for one additional winner. We will be awarding scholarships to 25 students, totaling $50,000.
