How To Enter:

Have fun winning extra money to help pay college expenses while testing your knowledge of financial topics related to paying for college, credit, and budgeting. RISLA’s Knowledge for College Scholarship provides a chance for Rhode Island Residents and/or students attending a college or university in Rhode Island to win scholarship funds.

Eligibility Requirements:
Student is a Rhode Island resident or student from any 
state attending a college or university in Rhode Island; and is accepted for and provides validation of enrollment at nationally accredited 2-year or 4-year, university, or postsecondary proprietary school when the scholarship is awarded.

RIEEA Environmental Studies Scholarships

If you have an interest in environmental justice and education, conservation, or climate change solutions and sustainability, this scholarship is for you!

Four
 scholarships will be given annually: two for $2,000 per year for up to four years of study (i.e. up to $8,000 total) and another two for $1,000 per year for up to four years of study (i.e up to $4,000 total). Scholarship winners will be required to update RIEEA annually on their educational progress. In addition, winners will be invited to attend our annual awards ceremony in the fall.


Eligibility:
Rhode Island residents enrolled in, accepted to, or currently applying to, a college or university for an undergraduate or associate degree are eligible. Students must be pursuing or planning to pursue a degree related to the environment. Acceptable majors include environmental studies, environmental education, and the environmental sciences (e.g. conservation biology, natural resources, etc.). DAR American Indian Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded once a year to a Native American college and technical student of any age, any tribe and in any state who has financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.25 based on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent GPA on the scaled used by the applicable educational institution.

Applicants must be Native Americans and must be able to prove membership in a tribe that is recognized at a state and/or federal level. These awards are available for vocational training or college/university undergraduate or graduate students. Preference is given to undergraduate applicants.

The amount of the scholarship is $4,000.00 and more than one may be awarded each year.

Frances Crawford Marvin American Indian Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded once a year to one student. A candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled full time at a 2- or 4- year college or university.

Applicants must be Native Americans and proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and have a 3.25 GPA or higher. A recipient may reapply for this scholarship and be considered along with other members of the applicant pool.

The amount of scholarship is based on total return of the endowment, and may vary year to year.

Scholarships will be awarded to students of Polish-American descent who are Rhode Island residents or who belong to a Rhode Island Polish-American organization, and are U.S. citizens.  Scholarships are open to current high school seniors applying to an accredited post-secondary educational institution in either a two or four year program.  Criteria for awards include academic achievement, extra curricular activities, community service, etc.  The scholarship award is for one year only, and is non-renewable.

The Rising Heart Scholarship was created with the belief that we all need someone to take a chance- no matter how small- on us. This scholarship honors a child born during civil unrest, who became a U.S. Marine, worked their way through school while having a family and achieved becoming a Special Agent for the United States. Throughout life, he helped individuals who were at a point of overwhelm and despair. This scholarship is for students who have found themselves in such a position to receive that small chance.

It’s My Heart New England Scholarship

It’s My Heart New England is a non-profit organization created to advocate for and provide support to those affected by Acquired and Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). Through awareness, resources, and education, It’s My Heart creates alliances and networks among families, groups, hospitals, and the community.

The purpose of the It’s My Heart New England Scholarship Program is to support and encourage the continuation of higher education to all those in New England affected by Congenital Heart Defects.

Eligibility:  To qualify for one of the It’s My Heart New England CHD Awareness Scholarships, the applicant must first meet one of the following requirements:

·  Be diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defect;
·  Be the recipient of a heart transplant; or
· Be a family member (sibling, child, parent, close relative) of a person diagnosed with a CHD.

Applicant must also meet these four requirements:

· Be a resident of one of the New England States;
· Be a high school senior or enrolled college student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher; and
· Be accepted full or part-time at an accredited 2 or 4-year college, university, or technical school located in the United States.
· Not have been awarded the CHD Scholarship in the last 2 years

CharterCare Foundation Scholarship

For the academic year beginning in September, the Foundation will award a total of $40,000 in nursing and continuing medical education scholarships to RI residents.

Applicants MUST be permanent Rhode Island residents, have demonstrated financial need, and maintain a 3.0 (B) average or above to qualify. Applications accepted from high school seniors who are pursuing a healthcare major and have been accepted at accredited institutions; OR students currently enrolled in an accredited institution with a major in nursing, certified nursing assistant, or masters; OR students pursuing any of the following career paths: physician’s assistant, dental hygienist, pharmacy technician, nurse anesthetist, CNA, phlebotomist, or other healthcare advanced training.

Community 2000 Scholarships

The Community 2000 Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides college and technical training scholarships.

Scholarship Details

Community 2000 provides need-based scholarships, supporting residents of Charlestown, Hopkinton or Richmond going on to college or seeking additional technical training including students who attend charter or other private high schools.  Students from towns other than Charlestown, Hopkinton or Richmond who attend Chariho are also eligible. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate at least a modest level of financial need

Community 2000 scholarships are renewable annually for up to four years, thereby providing continued support throughout the undergraduate experience. In addition, students in selected degree programs that require more than four years may apply for a 5th and/or 6th year of support. In recent scholarship years, thirty plus scholarships have been given to a pipeline of college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors.

KDMF Scholarship Opportunities

The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation is a local non-profit organization established in the memory of Katie DeCubellis, a 13-year old Narragansett student killed by a drunk driver on October 29, 1999.  The organization seeks to help others and to make our community a better place in which to live.  Our Foundation has set out to educate people on the dangers of drunk driving and substance abuse.

The KDMF offers four different scholarships.  

“Katie DeCubellis Victim Relief Scholarship” in the amount of $1,000 to a Senior high school student in Rhode Island who best exemplifies the strength, courage and commitment to triumph over the physical, emotional and/or financial tragedy resulting from an impaired driver. 

KDMF “Nobody’s Glory ... Everybody’s Gain” Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 are awarded annually to two (2) Senior students in Rhode Island who best exemplify a positive attitude and commitment to their school community to be “that” person who always steps up and gets the job done, while also maintaining good academic standing! Whether it’s organizing your school dance, selling those raffle tickets, and generally assisting whenever and wherever you are needed. No job too small! Is your school a better place because of your efforts? If so, we want your application. 

KDMF “Make A Difference" Scholarship will provide two $1,000 scholarships to high school senior students in Rhode Island who best exemplify the ability to make a difference in our community through their leadership, commitment and active involvement in their high school’s SADD, youth-to-youth, natural helpers or other organization that specifically targets substance abuse prevention and awareness and/or good decision making. Students must also maintain good academic standing.
 
“Katie DeCubellis Memorial Scholarship” will provide one scholarship in the total amount of $6,000 ($1500 per year for 3 years) to a Senior high school student and Narragansett resident, who best exemplifies Katie’s qualities of friendship, community service and academic excellence. Applicants should maintain a “B” or better average and demonstrate a strong commitment to extracurricular activities and community service.

South County Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship

The South County Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship Fund is used to assist graduating seniors interested in working in the health care field.  These awards shall be made for direct support of course fees/purchase of books/tuition assistance.  Multiple scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. 

This scholarship is intended to assist a graduating high school senior in his or her future endeavors in securing a position in a health care profession.  The final vocational interest could include such diverse areas as medicine, dentistry, nursing or physical therapy.  The initial screening process will be performed by the individual’s school faculty members who are responsible for this type of procedure and should be based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, a 500 word essay, in addition to the individual’s expressed interest in a health profession career.

The Sylvia Overend Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Sylvia Dobson Overend, a Chariho Middle School teacher and middle school Drama Club advisor, who passed away in 2019 from a rare form of Leukemia.

She took great pride in the CMS Drama Club, building it into an organization that grew in numbers every year, with Sylvia directing larger and larger productions. She had a knack for get young actors to come out of their shell, and project confidence in their performances. In addition to her love of the theater, Mrs. Overend had a passion for singing. She was a member of the Christ Church Choir, and a former member of the Chorus of Westerly.

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded each year- one to a graduating Senior member of the CHS Drama Club, and one to a graduating Senior member of the CHS Chorus, who plan on furthering their education after graduating. Only one application per student (you cannot apply for both). Applications will be due annually on April 17th (Sylvia’s birthday!) and will be presented at the annual Scholarship Awards night.

The Arbutus Garden Club was organized in 1947 by Agnes Smith of Richmond. She had a wealth of horticultural knowledge and a passion for everything in nature that grew.
