The minimum criteria for selection are as follows:

  • Open to high school senior girls
    GPA of 3.0 or higher
  •  Currently enrolled in a high school studying math, science, and technology
  •  Considering a career in a transportation-related field

The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific goals, academic record and interest in transportation.

The Rhode Chapter is offering a high school scholarship in the amount of $1000. The recipient’s application is then forwarded to the WTS Foundation to be considered for the WTS Transportation YOU High School Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

The Profile in Courage Essay Contest deadline is January 14, 2022.  The contest is open to high school students in grades nine through twelve.

US JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship

Each year (April) $1,000 grants will be awarded to graduating high school 
seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senate Foundation. The monies must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of their choice.

Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program

The Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program is accepting applications until midnight on January 15, 2022.

Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited US institution of higher learning during the academic year of 2022-2023. An essay of not more than 550 words must be submitted with the application. In this essay, applicants will detail their career, academic, and/or vocational goals.

National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship: In accordance with National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (NIAAA) purpose to promote, facilitate, and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of interscholastic athletics in the educational system, this scholarship program will foster and acknowledge the partnership between the NIAAA and secondary education. The scholarships will recognize the distinguished scholastic, leadership, and citizenship attributes of high school student athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life.

Criteria: 1. Applicant must be a Senior
2. Applicant must have achieved at least one (1) of the following: (A) minimum of B+ average; (B) Ranked in the top 25% of class; (C) ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (Math and Reading)
3. Applicant must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport
4. Applicant must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports
5. Applicant must complete attached scholar/essay application 6. Applicant must have a letter of recommendation from the high school athletic administrator/director
7. School athletic director must be an NIAAA member and a member of their respective state athletic administrators association
8. The principal or athletic director must sign the application to insure that the academic information submitted is accurate 9. All hard copy materials must be postmarked or electronic materials sent to the NIAAA State Liaison in your respective state by your states deadline. DAR American Indian Scholarships

DAR American Indian ScholarshipThis scholarship is awarded to help Native Americans students of any age, any tribe and in any state striving to get an education at the undergraduate or graduate levels.  However, undergraduate students are given preference. All awards are judged based on financial need and academic achievement.

Applicants must be Native Americans (proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers) in financial need and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. There will be no exceptions.

Frances Crawford Marvin American Indian ScholarshipThis scholarship is awarded once a year to one student. A candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled full time at a 2- or 4- year college or university.

Applicants must be Native Americans and proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and have a 3.25 GPA or higher. A recipient may reapply for this scholarship and be considered along with other members of the applicant pool.

Students planning to pursue a Vocational/Technical program leading to a terminal two year degree program or technical certification are eligible to compete for one of six $700 grants offered by the Rhode Island State Elks Association. These vocational grants are open to all eligible applicants with no special consideration given to those who are Elks or related to Elks. Additionally, this application is used to apply for the Stephen F. Woodcock Memorial Scholarship which will be awarded to the child of an Elk in good standing or a deceased Elk who was in good standing at the time of his/her death.

RISLA Knowledge for College Scholarship

General Information:

  • RI resident, high school seniors can enter just by answering 3 multiple choice financial literacy questions once per month 
  • 3 winners of $2,000 each will be randomly selected on the first day of the following month starting May 1 through April 30 of the following year.
  • Note: Students can win only once per academic year, therefore the student winners chosen in May have no need to re-enter for the remainder of monthly drawings
  • Students who enter all 12 months consecutively during May through April but did not win are qualified for the bonus drawing also held in May for two additional winner. We will be awarding scholarships to 50 students, totaling $100,000.

RI Army National Guard Scholarship

The RI National Guard Minuteman Scholarship requires membership in the Rhode Island Army National Guard, but can cover full tuition/fees or room and board (10K cap), $1,200 book stipend, $420 monthly ROTC Cadet stipend, $338-$480 per month drill pay, and more. 

Scholarship recipients serve in the Rhode Island Army National Guard while also attending college as an ROTC cadet, upon graduation they are commissioned as Second Lieutenants.
