URI is excited to announce the creation of the Narragansett Indian Undergraduate Scholarship for students of Narragansett Indian ancestry who have been accepted to a URI undergraduate program. This scholarship provides full, in-state tuition and fees for up to four years, as well as an additional grant of up to $5,000 based on full-time enrollment. 

Eligibility Criteria

In addition to being accepted into an undergraduate degree program, students must have:

  • A tribal enrollment identification card or an official letter from the tribal administration that confirms membership through a direct family member (parent).
  • An official FAFSA on file and all verification requirements completed.

CHS Benefit Concert Scholarship

The Benefit Concert Scholarship was started in March of 2022, at the first Benefit Concert after the Covid pandemic.  The scholarship is funded by donations collected at the annual chorus Benefit Concert.  The amount and number of scholarships will be based on the donations collected each year. 


This scholarship will be open to all seniors who have a passion for music and who have given their time and talents to help others by demonstrating leadership, participating in past concerts and providing music for our community.  You do not have to be pursuing a career in music to apply for this scholarship, but have plans to keep music in your life in some form in the future.  Applications will be due on March 1, and presented at the annual Scholarship Awards night.  Winners will be selected anonymously based on their responses to the questions on the application by a committee of teachers. 

The goal of each year’s Benefit Concert is to help keep  music alive  for everyone.  This scholarship is designed to help promote music and an appreciation of the arts, as students move into their career path and life choices.  If your life has been touched by chorus and music during your high school career, please apply.

Community 2000 Scholarships

The Community 2000 Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides college and technical training scholarships.

Scholarship Details

Community 2000 provides need-based scholarships, supporting residents of Charlestown, Hopkinton or Richmond going on to college or seeking additional technical training including students who attend charter or other private high schools.  Students from towns other than Charlestown, Hopkinton or Richmond who attend Chariho are also eligible. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate at least a modest level of financial need

While scholarship winners are most often graduating high school seniors, students in any year of their undergraduate studies may apply.  Community 2000 scholarships are renewable annually for up to four years, thereby providing continued support throughout the undergraduate experience.  And, students in selected degree programs that require more than four years, e.g., engineering, physical therapy or pharmacy, may apply for a 5th and/or 6th year of support.  In recent scholarship years, thirty plus scholarships have been given to a pipeline of college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors.

A scholarship is available to students enrolled at Chariho Regional High School, Narragansett High School, South Kingstown High School, and Westerly High Schools; whom have been accepted to a Marine Science or Fisheries program in an institute of higher learning. Preference may be given toward financial need, and to those who have interest in pursuing their careers in the state of Rhode Island.

The Cooperative Credit Union Association College Scholarship

WCCU is part of the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) and proud to participate in the annual scholarship program. Three scholarships of $1,500 each are awarded on a statewide basis each year to high school seniors who plan to enroll in undergraduate college/university degree programs. As a sponsoring Credit Union, WCCU will submit its top three entries for consideration.

South County Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship

The South County Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship Fund is used to assist graduating seniors interested in working in the health care field.  These awards shall be made for direct support of course fees/purchase of books/tuition assistance.  Multiple scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. 

This scholarship is intended to assist a graduating high school senior in his or her future endeavors in securing a position in a health care profession.  The final vocational interest could include such diverse areas as medicine, dentistry, nursing or physical therapy.  The initial screening process will be performed by the individual’s school faculty members who are responsible for this type of procedure and should be based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, a 500 word essay, in addition to the individual’s expressed interest in a health profession career.

The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation is a local non-profit organization established in the memory of Katie DeCubellis, a 13-year old Narragansett student killed by a drunk driver on October 29, 1999.  The organization seeks to help others and to make our community a better place in which to live.  Our Foundation has set out to educate people on the dangers of drunk driving and substance abuse.

Sylvia Overend Memorial Scholarship

The Sylvia Overend Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Sylvia Dobson Overend, a Chariho Middle School teacher and middle school Drama Club advisor, who passed away in 2019 from a rare form of Leukemia.


She took great pride in the CMS Drama Club, building it into an organization that grew in numbers every year, with Sylvia directing larger and larger productions. She had a knack for get young actors to come out of their shell, and project confidence in their performances. In addition to her love of the theater, Mrs. Overend had a passion for singing. She was a member of the Christ Church Choir, and a former member of the Chorus of Westerly.

 Two $500 scholarships will be awarded each year- one to a graduating Senior member of the CHS Drama Club, and one to a graduating Senior member of the CHS Chorus, who plan on furthering their education after graduating. Only one application per student (you cannot apply for both). Applications will be due annually on April 17th (Sylvia’s birthday!) and will be presented at the annual Scholarship Awards night.

RISLA Knowledge for College Scholarship

General Information:

  • RI resident, high school seniors can enter just by answering 3 multiple choice financial literacy questions once per month 
  • 3 winners of $2,000 each will be randomly selected on the first day of the following month starting May 1 through April 30 of the following year.
  • Note: Students can win only once per academic year, therefore the student winners chosen in May have no need to re-enter for the remainder of monthly drawings
  • Students who enter all 12 months consecutively during May through April but did not win are qualified for the bonus drawing also held in May for two additional winner. We will be awarding scholarships to 50 students, totaling $100,000.

RI Army National Guard Scholarship

The RI National Guard Minuteman Scholarship requires membership in the Rhode Island Army National Guard, but can cover full tuition/fees or room and board (10K cap), $1,200 book stipend, $420 monthly ROTC Cadet stipend, $338-$480 per month drill pay, and more. 

Scholarship recipients serve in the Rhode Island Army National Guard while also attending college as an ROTC cadet, upon graduation they are commissioned as Second Lieutenants.

To apply, in 800 words or less, answer the following question: "When the population of a city grows, low-income people are often forced to move to more affordable areas outside of the city. Many initiatives have been proposed or implemented to keep affordable housing within city limits. Identify one such initiative and discuss its pros and cons."

How to Apply The scholarship application period will occur twice yearly with awards delegated in both the Spring and Fall. The Spring application period is from November 1-January 31 of each year. The Fall application period is from May 1-July 31 of each year. Complete the following form within the designated application periods.
